Introduction to Bukit Panjang Govt. High Chinese Orchestra.
The Bpian Chinese Orchestra is one of the Performing Arts Groups in the school. It was established in 1993 with a current enrolment of 100 student performers. The student performers are divided into various instrumental sections. Namely, Strings, Plucking, Woodwinds and percussion, and they have practices three times a week. The new intakes of student performers have to undergo a musical audition before they are identified to play specific instruments in the performing troupe.
BPCO also recruits PSLE students with prior experience, knowledge and talent in the playing of Chinese instruments under the Direct School Admission Programme. Our current student performers with music flair are selected to participate in the annual Chinese Orchestra Music Camp organized by the MOE CCA Branch (in collaboration with SCO). There, they receive special tutor from professional musicians and get to perform in a concert. Throughout the whole camp, CO members get themselves exposed to higher levels of music. We have performed on several occasions like the school’s Chinese New Year Celebrations, Speech Day, the 45th Anniversary, Foreign officials, ministers, educators, MOE officials School Visit and staged several successful public performances.

Hey everyone! It's the festive season again :D Though it's kind of late, but here's wishing everyone Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day! And don't forget, the last CO practice for the year 2009 is the 29th! --- Regarding the CO tee, like I have told everyone (except those who were absent for practice), we will be changing the design at the back so that it would be cheaper. It isn't compulsory, but I would strongly encourage you to buy it since we don't make a CO tee every year and it gives you a sense of belonging. --- Here are the upcoming events for BPCO: Sec One CCA Orientation: Playing 菊花台 and etc. Cross-cultural performance during Chinese New Year with the Gamelan: Playing Usik-Asik, 簸箕与风筝舞曲 Performances at CCK Lot 1 Library and Queenstown Library: Playing 骏马夺标, 阿里郎, 笛子齐奏, 扬琴独奏, 大提琴独奏(Bach's Cello Prelude in G Major) P.S Please buck up more during main orchestra practice, especially the new sec ones! When you first go into the main orchestra, it won't be easy to catch up with everyone or know the conduct in main orchestra so it would best to ask your section's seniors about it! :D -Hui Min |
