The Bpian Chinese Orchestra is one of the Performing Arts Groups in the school. It was established in 1993 with a current enrolment of 100 student performers. The student performers are divided into various instrumental sections. Namely, Strings, Plucking, Woodwinds and percussion, and they have practices three times a week. The new intakes of student performers have to undergo a musical audition before they are identified to play specific instruments in the performing troupe.
BPCO also recruits PSLE students with prior experience, knowledge and talent in the playing of Chinese instruments under the Direct School Admission Programme. Our current student performers with music flair are selected to participate in the annual Chinese Orchestra Music Camp organized by the MOE CCA Branch (in collaboration with SCO). There, they receive special tutor from professional musicians and get to perform in a concert. Throughout the whole camp, CO members get themselves exposed to higher levels of music. We have performed on several occasions like the school’s Chinese New Year Celebrations, Speech Day, the 45th Anniversary, Foreign officials, ministers, educators, MOE officials School Visit and staged several successful public performances.

Hey people, here is more information regarding the Hwa Chong (College Section) Chinese Orchestra (HCCO) Interaction this Saturday. Date: 21 November Time: 8am to 7pm (or earlier) Place: Hwa Chong Institution College Section At the HCCO interaction, we'll meet other CO members from other schools, such as Chung Cheng High Main, St. Nicholas Girls, Raffles Girls and many more. It's not like a practice session there to practise your respective instruments, but to interact with other people. You won't be touching your instruments but instead playing games with other CO members to promote good relationships. Last year quite a number of our school's CO members (I'm one of them) went there and we really enjoyed ourselves. Most of them who went last year are going this year too! Others couldn't make it due to grading exams. So, please do go and get yourself exposed to other well-minded CO members who share the share passion as you do for CO. It's worth your time. -Hui Min Here's what the President of HCCO 2009 said: "Striving on, the annual HCCO Interaction provides secondary school CO members with the opportunity to interact with others of similar interests. It is also an opportunity for them to mingle with the current members of HCCO, allowing them to gain insights into the functioning of a CO at the Junior College (JC) level, as well as JC life." |
